African Arts Festival

The 2018 African Arts Festival showcased African art and media, fostering an appreciation locally for cultures represented both in and outside of our community. Not only were there movie screenings (“Hawa” by Arzouma Aimé Kompaoré, “La Noire de” (“Black Girl“) by Ousmane Sembene, “Am I too African to be American? Am I too American to be African?” by Nadia Sasso, and “Pray the Devil Back to Hell” by Jackie Sayegh) – there were also workshops on everything from African games to the Swahili language. Beyond workshops and films, the festival also featured African art exhibits, African storytelling sessions, dancing, and much more, bringing a taste of African cultures to the Ithaca community.
